About Me

My name is Naima Easington-Williams and I am a BA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography student. This is my DPS reflective journal in which I document my experiences over my placement year.

My photography is mostly observational and focuses on my own lived experience and the impact of my surrounding environment. Im interested in how photography can shift perception especially in relation to misrepresented spaces and people.

Below is an example of my most recent project titles “Looking for the Perfect beat”. At its heart, Looking for the Perfect Beat is a collaborative photobook project that I created with my father. With its intention to visually document his long career as a musician and creative. Looking for the Perfect Beat is a visual mixtape made from stories, photographs and shared memories new and old.

My main purpose for this DPS year was to push myself to try new things and gain as much experience before my final year at university. I hoped to also gain some clarity on what career path I would like to pursue post graduation.

This journal follows my progression through a series of professional experiences. I begin the year with my placement at Labrum London where I am introduced to a fast paced fashion environment. Here I begin to understand the amount of work that goes on behind these big brands I also work on my confidence as I try to find where I fit in this new environment. I then move on to my time at Bang Premier, where I develop my digital content creation skills. More recently, I explore my role with Exhibition hub, where I worked on the new Seven Wonders of the World immersive gallery experience.

While this year has been challenging at times, I am proud of myself for navigating different environments. Being in these unfamiliar settings is what has pushed me to become more adaptable and independent. This has been a journey of not only professional practice but also self development. I now have a clearer sense of how I work and how I want to progress into my final year
